Is This Really How It Happened?

Nicolas de Pigage and his brother Louis are historical characters. Electress Elisabeth Augusta hosted a banquet in celebration of the completion of the palace in 1771. We do know that at least Nicolas was amongst the guests.

The people Nicolas and Louis encounter on their tour through the palace, too, are mainly historical characters. Anna Dorothea Therbusch was a famous artist who painted portraits of the Electoral Couple and Nicolas de Pigage. Did she ever come to Benrath? We don’t know. Wilhelm Lambert Krahe was a Düsseldorf-based painter and the founding director of Kunstakademie Düsseldorf.
